Originally founded by directors Kathryn and Michael, the original CARRO duo, our team is made up of artists and strategic thinkers bringing personality and ingenuity, creativity and fire to your images.
On the Wynyard estate, our two-floor photography studio has a 56m2 versatile shooting space, a perfect canvas for fashion photography, family portraiture, newborn photography, pets or products. We have a designated make-up and hair lounge for any pre-shoot pampering, a cinema projection screen with seating for training or viewing your captured images, a complimentary drinks menu including champagne, kitchen facilities, bathroom and state of the art cinema preview room with a 14 person capacity. For family shoots, children are able to choose a DVD of their choice complete with popcorn or nibbles.
Situated in a convenient location between the A19 and A1 in County Durham, we are not far from Newcastle, Gosforth, Ponteland, Northumberland, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, York, Richmond, Harrogate, Darlington and Leeds. No location is too far, as international photographers we cover worldwide destinations and spend much of our time in London.
Our team includes full time photographers and artists who have worked in the wedding and commercial industries, at London Fashion Week and featured on the front cover and in editorials for publications such as La Di Da magazine, ETC Magazine, Unveiled Magazine, Kiss The Bride Magazine, Belle Bridal Magazine and Amour Fou Manchester Fashion Magazine. We have worked overseas and photographed celebrities.
As international photographers and artists in addition to business managers, our team has had experience in creating photographic sets, art based installations and importantly a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the challenges, budgets and daily operational requirements within the wedding, business marketing and events industries. We know what captivates clients and how to capture the wow factor in your advertising campaigns and wedding album. Whether we are waist high in the sea, shooting from a boat or out of the side of a moving car window, nothing is impossible.
CARRO was born out of the idea that we could use our photographic and artistic talents to create captivating lasting imagery. The industry is saturated with stock photography and step and repeat shooting. Bespoke has a new dimension when it comes to CARRO shoots. We aim to personally provide you with our expertise, support and tools to empower you to develop and realise your photographic ideas and campaigns whilst most importantly remaining affordable.

SENIOR TEAM
KATHRYN CARRUTHERS
Kathryn is at the hub of CARRO as director of photography. She holds qualifications in art and design, is an accomplished professional photographer completing professional training alongside a first class degree. In her past life as a senior Occupational Therapist (with the aim of using art in healthcare), she has developed great skills in imparting knowledge to others making her a great tutor to bring out the photographer in you. After leaving healthcare, Kathryn focussed solely on photography and the wedding, fashion and events industries, with her work featured regularly in magazine spreads and covers.
When she isn’t photographing events such as London Fashion Week, you will find her perusing the pages of Vogue planning her next shoot. Despite having an ability to emulate all photography styles she does have a personal bias towards a fashion editorial style, evident in her wedding work. Always willing to give wedding planning advice, she is the font of knowledge on all wedding essentials from the venue to the all-important dress. Her current passion is to blend hand drawn elements with photography so you will find her beavering away in her designated workspace… watch this space!

MICHAEL CARRUTHERS
Michael is the company’s business director, guru and professional wedding and portrait photographer. In management roles from the age of 16, Michael is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and holds a number of masters’ level qualifications including Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Michael’s creativity and the arts are equally matched with his knowledge of business, budgeting and financial forecasting. Michael’s skills are well placed as CARRO’s direct contact, ensuring your needs are met, booking is in and product orders are placed. Specialising in weddings, Michael is great at banishing any paparazzi nerves and knows how to keep your big day right on time.
