About The Bowes Museum
Choose The Bowes Museum for a unique and evocative venue for your civil wedding ceremony and reception. The Museum offers palatial rooms, first class dining and immaculate grounds for your special event. The Museum is licensed for all civil ceremonies.

Main Highlights
The Bowes Museum is the perfect choice for a unique and magical wedding. Built in 1895 by husband and wife John and Josephine Bowes, the Museum is a lasting celebration of their love for each other as well as their love of art. Set in beautiful Teesdale, it is a grand and fitting home to an internationally important collection of decorative arts. Please contact me to arrange a convenient time for you to come and see the beauty of The Bowes Museum for yourself.

Our Wedding Suite includes 2 beautiful rooms, The Jubilee Room and The Music Room, both licensed for civil ceremonies. Wedding suite hire costs £850, which includes up to 100 chair covers.

The Jubilee Room provides a magnificent and unique setting with glorious views over Teesdale, and can seat 100 people. The drapes were specially commissioned and are made from Italian silk. The carpet has been made to an original Barnard Castle design.

The Music Room provides a more intimate setting for parties of up to 80 guests. The walls are hung with wonderful tapestries and fine art. Being the Music Room, it also has a number of historic musical instruments.


For an additional £150, you can hire our West Picture Gallery in addition to the Wedding Suite. Painted an opulent royal blue, and hung with beautiful paintings from floor to ceiling, it is a grand setting for up to 220 guests.

The Wedding Suite and Picture Galleries are on the second floor, and are fully accessible from the ground floor via a lift.


Subject to availability, you can book our weddings for any day of the week at any time between 9am and 5pm. It is sometimes possible to book other times by special arrangement.
